Çayönü, Diyarbakır’ın Ergani ilçesine bağlı Sesverenpınar (Hilar) yakınlarında bulunan eski adı Kotaberçem (Çayboyu) olan tarih öncesinden kalma bir höyüktür.Çayönü’nde kazı çalışmaları 1964 yılında başlamıştır. höyük çevresinde resimli resimsiz mağaralar mağra duvarları kullanılarak yapılmış evlerin izleri bulunmaktadır.Arkeolojinin ilk ver tabanında tarıma ilk başlanılan yer olrak gösterilmiş olması açısından önemlidir MÖ.7500-6250 arasına verilen höyük en iyi neolitik ev yapılarını vermektedir.Izgara planlı,Yuvarlak planlı,taş tabanlı,kanallı,dikdötgen planlı yapıları oldukça ilginçtir.Kullanım şekilleri spesifik bir yaklaşımla değerlendirilir.Höyük şu an her türlü tahribata açık bir durumda bulunmaktadır.
