Herakles'in ataları arasında yeralan Argoslu bir kahraman.Babası Zeus annesi Akrisios kızı Danae'dir.Perseus'un büyük babası Akrisios bir kahine gidip bir erkek çocuğunun olup olamayacağını sorar.

Kahin ona kızı Danae'nin bir erkek çocuğu olacağını ve bu çocuğun onu öldüreceğini söyler,korkuya kapılan ve kehanetin gerçekleşmesinden korkan Akrisios,yeraltında bronzdan bir oda yaptırarak kızını oraya hapseder.Zeus bronz odanın tavanındaki bir yarıktan altın damlası şeklinde içeri sızar ve genç kızla birlikte olur.Bu birleşmeden Perseus doğar.
